Welcome to the Canadian Capital's Foremost Buhurt Group! Buhurt Ottawa is registered with the Quebec Medieval Combat Federation/l’ost du Quebec (FMCQ), and adheres to the standards of the International Medieval Combat Federation (IMCF). We have been operating in the region since 2011 and we strive to develop athletes who have a passion for medieval history and combat.
If you are interested in the medieval period and martial sports, come check us out! We are insured for training. We can help you enhance your physical abilities, teach you how to make and repair armour, and help you develop the skills required to compete in medieval style duels, as well as a member of a 5 person and 25 person squad
Modern medieval sport fighting originated in Eastern Europe in the early 1990s, having developed from the reenactment movement. As various reenactment groups began introducing blunted metal weapons, more protective armour systems became necessary to ensure the safety of participants. Eventually, rules and standards were required which formalized the activity as a new type of sport, although one that traced its origins back to the medieval period. The now formalized sport soon spread throughout Western Europe, North America and beyond. Today, clubs exist on every continent with several leagues supporting large annual multi-national competitions.
